Dental Fillings

Natural colored bonded fillings are put in place to seal the tooth and prevent decay caused by bacteria infiltrating the inner part of the tooth. They are less obvious then older silver alternatives and help make your smile look and feel great!

The Procedure:

Dr. Watson will numb the area around the tooth with a strong anesthetic solution making for a pain free procedure. The decay or old filling is removed and the tooth is prepared to accept the filling. The tooth is then “etched” with a mild acidic solution. This roughens the enamel surface and allows the bonding material to adhere. He will then choose a color closest to your natural teeth and apply the composite material, hardening it with a special light. Lastly, Dr. Watson will shape and contour the tooth to fit the natural alignment of your bite.

How Long Will They Last?

There are many factors that contribute to the longevity of your filling. Naturally, smaller fillings that are surrounded by natural tooth will last much longer than large fillings that are not composed of the same natural tooth support structure. Pressure in the bite is also a big contributor to the durability of these fillings. Home care, frequency of dental visits and quality of diet are also factors that affect the life of your filling. If cared for properly, your tooth colored fillings can last years before needing repair or replacement.
