Cleanings

About your Teeth Cleaning

Coming in to have your teeth cleaned is a quick 45-60 min appointment which benefits not only the appearance of your smile and the health of your teeth and gums but also the rest of your body. Removal of the bacteria on your teeth and below the gum line helps prevents gingivitis, bone loss, cavities, oral cancer as well as heart disease, diabetes and low birth weights. One of the major reasons for bad breath and staining of teeth is neglect of proper cleanings. Most dental insurances cover at least 2 cleanings a year. Why pay for dental insurance and not use it to benefit your health?

What to Expect During Your Cleaning

In our office the dental cleaning will be done at your first dental visit. Your maintenance dental cleanings should be done at least every 6 months. The cleaning may include the use of an ultrasonic scaler which is an electric instrument. The ultrasonic scaler uses sound waves to gently break up the plaque and calculus which accumulate on the teeth. Use of this device decreases the time spent and increases the comfort level at your teeth cleaning. Also included as a usual part of a cleaning are: tooth polishing, flossing and a fluoride treatment rinse.
